Our clients wished for a low cost minimal space that would allow them to both cook and dine in the same space. The property only had a small courtyard garden, which was greatly overlooked by it’s neighbours, so it was imperative that the proposal balanced light vs privacy and internal vs external space. The result is a small curved side extension that for the majority of its length is solid rather than glazed. One carefully detailed cut out lets light into the deepest part of the house, but protects privacy. The curve reduces the impact of the extension on the neighbouring property as it comes down to the existing height of the boundary wall. The existing elements of the property have been stripped back and painted white with accents of grey. Our Clients also wished to take advantage of the new planning policies allowing mansard roof extensions. The new mansard contains the masterbedroom and a new bathroom.
