Completed in early 2015, this loft was designed and built in conjunction with the neighbouring loft. It was an unusual project, as the client of this loft wanted to buy some space from the loft next door, with Inside Out coordinating the transfer of space and designing accordingly. Both of these lofts are in the same industrial building as Inside Out’s much publicised Clerkenwell Loft project in 2013, sharing the same expressive structural concrete geometry. In this loft, the clients were a young family looking to transform the flat into a welcoming family home. Our choice of materials aimed to create such a light and playful atmosphere, incorporating the clients’ love of design classics. With space being tight, most partitions were transformed into useful pieces of joinery. A bespoke kitchen was deigned with a stepping concrete countertop that felt right at home in the raw concrete building. Birch plywood was used to create a warmer materiality to offset the raw concretes, combined with modern pastels to complete the relaxed and fun setting.
