Within a Conservation Area, Listed Building - Grade II*, New Build

Practice

Re-Format LLP

Buckmore Studios , Beckham Lane , PETERSFIELD , Hampshire , GU32 3BU

35 affordable dwellings and 4 offices with community room on grade II* listed former railway station. Re-Format sourced site and submitted competition entry in collaboration with client and project team which were then engaged to deliver the entire project, including conservation architect for English Heritage grant. Key Areas: Listed building in a conservation area: early consultation and discussion with all stakeholders. Quality of place: achieved by the creation of new public landscaped courtyards. Overlooking & Privacy: addressed by careful design layout and orientation of dwellings. Energy Conservation: timber frame, high levels of air tightness, MVHR (mechanical ventilation with heat recovery), EcoHomes level 3, re-use of existing structure. Client Testimonial: The restoration and conversion of Gosport Railway Station would never have come about without Re-Format's inspired concept and their ability to convince the planning and conservation authorities that their design would preserve the listed remains. The result is a striking design and excellent residential accommodation which has been produced within the normal financial constraints that apply to affordable housing. David Thompson, Guinness Hermitage. Awards Received: 2008 Housing Design Award - Winner.
