The brief was to replace the existing 1960?s building that occupied the site and adjacent three storey teaching block with a new combined VI Form and Humanities Teaching Centre as part of an overall strategic plan developed with the School. The two distinct elements of the brief had to come together to create modern teaching facilities and a new VI Form Centre with a clear identity, the latter enabling the senior students to ?take ownership? of their environment and begin to bridge the gap between School and University surroundings. The building needed to be environmentally responsible and illustrate the history and future aspirations of the Client. Located at the heart of the School, this tight sloping site is surrounded on three sides by existing School buildings, including the grade II listed Marryott House, and lies within the Woodbridge conservation area.
