New Build
The recently completed Exhibition Building at Longstanton Park and Ride, Cambridge acts as both a passenger interchange for the new Cambridge Guided Busway and an exemplar demonstration of highly efficient construction and low carbon technologies, helping to educate and influence visitors in environmentally responsible living. This project is one of only a handful in the East of England to have achieved an BREEAM “Excellent” rating. It is also the first building in the country to be completed using the ground-breaking Hembuild© system – a hemp and lime based construction system that offers exceptional insulation and thermal performance whilst also being carbon negative (the materials absorb more carbon dioxide during its creation than is released in the manufacture of the panels). Combined with a green roof, ground source heating and solar photovoltaic (PV) panels the building aims to be completely self-sufficient in energy terms. The scheme has just been awarded a 2012 Green Apple award by the Green Organisation.
