Rees Architects restored and extended an Edwardian home in Wanstead's Aldersbrook Conservation Area for a young family. Working within strict heritage constraints, the project reconfigured the ground floor into an open-plan living space anchored by a central kitchen, with a sculptural curved wall defining zones without breaking sightlines. A modest rear extension clad in vertical timber opens fully to the garden via corner glazing and sliding doors. Natural materials throughout, polished concrete, marble, pale oak, and brass, create a tactile, timeless interior. The result is a home that balances heritage sensitivity with contemporary family life, designed to evolve gracefully over time.
