Two new bedrooms and a family bathroom allow the existing congested plan to be opened-up and improved so that the characterful cottage functions as a modern family home. The materials of the extension are proposed as a modern interpretation of the existing cottage, with sophisticated timber cladding and metal roof drawing on the local vernacular of boat sheds and agricultural buildings. New roof dormers are designed as a modern reference to the thickness of thatching whilst accommodating modern levels of insulation.
