Following a protracted planning process where we looked to provide a replacement dwelling for a tired 1950s dormer bungalow in open countryside we finally gained planning permission for a contemporary version in early 2020. The client's wanted to undertake a self-build and so we set to design a simple to construct but elegant home. The ground floor will be a standard masonry cavity wall construction and the first will be entirely in timber: with well-proportioned dormers front and back for a spacious first floor, within wrap-around standing-seam metal cladding, hidden gutters and complimentary PVs. The build will be watertight late 2020, when the client will return to their winter home in the French Alps, ready for completion, mid 2021.
