Towngate House is a beautiful period home, built in the late 19th Century, with small additions during the early part of the 20th Century. Constructed from Lincolnshire stone walls with Collyweston slate roofs and finely dressed stone surrounds to reveals. At the rear is a steeply sloping single storey wing, will little to no aspect of the rear garden. Our brief therefore was to design a modest extension that would provide all the necessary facilities of a modern family home within the confines of an elegant and characterful dwelling. Detailed discussions with the planners/conservation and a feasibility study that looked at more than 10 options resulted in a lightweight extension, with strong gabled forms that echo the sentiments of the existing building.
