ReardonSmith led the design team, that included Pierre-Yves Rochon, in the transformation of The Four Seasons Hotel London at Park Lane into the luxury hotel group's European flagship. This was the first time that the building had been entirely stripped back to its structure since construction, a task that had become necessary to facilitate a major upgrading of all services but which also enabled substantial internal re-planning. In addition, a two-storey extension to the North West elevation together with a rooftop extension, the latter designed by Eric Parry Architects, have succeeded in increasing the footprint of this land-locked building, while a greater sense of space has been achieved through the re-orientation of internal layouts to harness newly landscaped terraces and the garden as well as city views from the higher levels of the building. At ground level, the porte-cochere has been remodelled into an elegant and enticing point of arrival, while the new restaurant, relocated from the first floor, now also benefits from its own street entrance as well as a fully glazed extension that opens onto the garden to allow al fresco dining. Above the restaurant, the extension accommodates a stunning executive meeting room, the roof of which forms a magnificent terrace for a new executive suite affording iconic views over Park Lane. All eight floors of guestrooms have been reconfigured to achieve a wide range of bedrooms and suites. New lift cores, plant and state-of-the-art back-of-house facilities have also been introduced.
