Reading + West Architects were invited to undertake 2 projects at Well House farm. Project 1 involved the sensitive conversion of the roof space to the existing farmhouse to provide a contemporary loft master bedroom suite with an ensuite bathroom and changing area. The second phase was the construction of a new build garden room which was constructed in the walled gardens to compliment the existing house and included kitchen and dining facilities for entertaining guests. A new heated outdoor swimming pool was constructed and surrounded with limestone paving which was extended into the garden room to make a seamless transition between inside and out. The building was clad with black stained timber to reflect the local vernacular but the eaves and copings detailed precisely in colour coated aluminium to give the building a very sharp contemporary aesthetic. An entire facade of full width sliding glazed panels allows the room to be unzipped in the summer whilst framed views of the beautiful walled gardens are framed through frameless glazed corner windows.
