New Build, Sited in AONB, Within a Conservation Area
‘Trees’ is a contemporary family home set within a Conservation Area and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It was awarded numerous awards including Grand Designs Best New Home 2008, Daily Telegraph and Homebuilding and Renovation Best Contemporary Home and Overall Winner 2008 The house respects and enhances the mature landscape character of the site and quietly integrates into its setting. ‘Trees’ is an elevated form within the tree canopy, visually detached from the landscape below. The surrounding landscape has a natural visual depth that is generated by the layering of the various tree canopy’s. The timber clad form responds to its setting through the set-back and layering of solid and void plains, punctuated by timber slatted screens. The combined effect seeks to create intrigue and soften the visual impact of the structure and thereby facilitate its integration into the landscape. Kevin McCloud: The building seems to float on a wall of glass, it is an extraordinary building. The Daily Telegraph: It is a breathtaking and sensitive design. George Clarke, Grand Designs Live: One of the most beautiful modern buildings I’ve ever seen.
