Sustainable, Contemporary New Build Development, Lambourn, West Berks – Our brief was to create a racing establishment to train racehorses, including a trainer’s house, jockeys’ accommodation, stables and administration offices. The site is set in a designated Area of Outstanding Beauty and overlooks a rolling hillside. The trainer’s house within the main building is completely unique in design and character with a cathedral like entrance hall running through the house and a winged central staircase made of high quality oak. The development was designed in response to the site and the path of the sun. The house has large areas of glazing to capture the breathtaking views beyond. To meet modern sustainability and low energy requirements the main building is connected to a shallow trench ground source heat pump which harnesses energy from surrounding fields. The building was also specified with photovoltaic cells and has a high thermal efficiency rating. For further project information please contact RBD Architecture & Interiors. Tel: 02071937245.
