Within a Conservation Area
Considered as one of Portsmouth’s most important historic buildings Buckingham House has a rich history. Originally Tudor in origin, the building is widely known for being the house in which George Villiers, the first Duke of Buckingham was murdered in 1628. Since then the building has been adapted and utilised for many uses but had recently become vacant with an ever growing list of dilapidations accruing. The practice were appointed to oversee the sympathetic alteration of the building along with the neighbouring Felton House into a small hotel for a local business. Works would include restoration of the building fabric and minor alteration in Buckingham House and the provision of ensuite rooms and dining facilities in Felton House adjacent. Having obtained Planning and Conservation Area Consent following a long, detailed local consultation the practice oversaw the repair and refurbishment of the building to it’s present state. Plans to convert the building are currently on hold pending further investment.
