Listed Building - Grade II, New Build
The Old Bank , 5 High Street , Old Town , EASTBOURNE , East Sussex , BN21 1HG
RSP were commissioned to design an outbuilding for work and contemplation overlooking the historic Long Man of Wilmington, carved into the South Downs. The brief required two separate rooms for both Clients to work separately with shared kitchen and toilet facilities, also enabling the building to be used as a Guest Suite. The location for the building was set behind the existing Grade II Listed Cottage with new landscaped routes created to link these elements. Traditional flint appearance was achieved in a more contemporary way using precast 'flint blocks' enabling quicker construction, thinner external walls and lighter foundation loads. The East and South facing facades used full height glazing and opening doors to maximise the natural light and provide views up on to the Downs. RSP undertook all of the Architectural design from inception to completion and performed the Contract Administration role during the construction phase of the project
