The Cornerstone building forms the frst phase of a site masterplan for Elekta—a global pioneer in the treatment of cancers—whose oncology products are designed, developed and built at its adjacent site in Crawley, West Sussex. The fve storey, Grade A building, was developed by rhp to detailed planning receiving unanimous approval at Committee in November 2014. The concept design is based around a large atrium crossed by ‘communication bridges’ linking departments. Once completed, the building will provide Elekta with a high-quality open plan ofce environment enabling new, more collaborative ways of working, with break-out, touchdown, meeting areas and social spaces. The ground foor accommodates demonstration facilities as well as a cafeteria and a restaurant. The extensive landscaping will form a unique amenity within the locality for employees and was a critical element of the Client brief.
