The completion of the Café & Community Space is an exciting stage in the ongoing regeneration of the historic Page Park. The project for a new building came about from a winning Heritage Lottery Fund bid supported by Quattro's expertise in sustainable design and community collaboration. Quattro undertook extensive stakeholder engagement workshops to inform the design phase of the project. This project also involved the careful renovation of the historic Clock Tower at the centre of the Park, with funding provided by a SITA grant. The Café is now a thriving community hub with a simple but very effective layout. A flexible open-plan multifunction room, known as ‘The Nest’, is an exciting space for hire to local groups and the community. This can easily be connected to the main Café space or completely sealed off by a full height movable wall. Two timber-clad ‘pods’ provide functional services such as WC’s and a commercial kitchen. Glulam “tree trunks” support an innovative timber frame structure, sheltering visitors beneath the canopy of a beautifully crafted inverted timber roof. Highly glazed elevations connect well-lit spaces with the park beyond. This building is part of a wider project to bring the park environment up to the highest of standards for the benefit and enjoyment of the local community.
