New Build, Listed Building - Grade I
1st Floor, Seebhom House , 2-4 Queen Street , NORWICH , NR2 4SQ , United Kingdom
In collaboration with the client Purcell transformed St. Mary’s House and the East Wing of the Assembly House, a Grade I listed and Scheduled Ancient Monument in Norwich’s city centre. The previously empty wing was adapted to provide eleven luxury Bed and Breakfast suites which add significantly to the attraction of the greatly loved Assembly House. A Conservation Management Plan was initially produced which helped the project team to understand the existing building and avoid unnecessary disturbance of significant historic fabric. The project team incorporated modern concepts to bring the comforts of the 21st century into this 16th century building. The Assembly House Trust now enjoys additional revenue from the Bed and Breakfast business to assist with ongoing maintenance and repairs and to fulfil its charitable objects of promoting the arts for the benefit of the public. This will ensure that the building’s high profile is maintained and it is used by the community for many years to come.
