Purcell first prepared a Venue Masterplan for the Lady Lever Art Gallery in 2004. The final scheme identified a multi-phase venue development incorporating a comprehensive renewal of the gallery, restoration of the key historic interiors, provision of a new entrance and a new subterranean temporary exhibition gallery. Subsequently the practice has delivered three phases of the Masterplan, including a new entrance with contemporary access, Lord Leverhulme gallery and education space and the South Galleries redevelopment. The South Galleries redevelopment project is the latest phase, and involved the comprehensive re-planning of ten galleries. The overall concept was to create improved connectivity, based around new and reinstated axial views. The key historic spaces were restored to their former glory, and contemporary displays inserted. Office space was removed to provide a new gallery exploring the links between the Lady Lever and the adjoining garden village of Port Sunlight. Supporting the various funding applications, Purcell have provided other essential documents including a Conservation Management Plan (for the whole gallery), Management and Maintenance Plan and concept visuals.
