Listed Building - Grade II*, New Build
Set on Battle Hill at the edge of Romney Marsh, the Grade II* listed parish church of St Mary in Kenardington has been serving its small community for over 800 years and now has the modern facilities to ensure its continued use, both as a place of worship and an important community asset. Purcell re-ordered the existing church, carrying out essential conservation work to the church interiors and adding a new extension to reinstate the link between the tower and the church. This enables access through the great west door for the first time since a fire in the building in1559. A separate new service building has been constructed in the churchyard and the church has been refurbished with new discreetly integrated electrical, heating and drainage services. The final phase of work was installing three beautiful engraved glass windows in the tower and Pentice link.
