Listed Building - Grade I
Calvert’s Buildings , 52D Borough High Street , LONDON , SE1 1XN , United Kingdom
Ptolemy Dean is the inspecting architect for Sir Christopher Wren?s celebrated church on Piccadilly constructed in 1676 and Listed Grade I. A long term programme of restoration has begun, including the cleaning and re-pointing of brick and stonework to the south elevation and the restoration of the Grinling Gibbon?s reredos with an HLF grant. Following a period of fund raising, the re-roofing of the nave and aisles began on site in January 2010. The worn copper roof that was installed in the 1950?s post war period is being replaced with a traditional clay peg tile roof over the nave, and lead flat roofs over the aisles. These works will also involve the installation of insulation over the roof, and a fall restraint mansafe system to improve maintenance accessibly to the roof areas. The re-roofing works are due to be completed in May 2010. Fund raising has recently begun for the internal repair, redecoration and re-servicing of the church, which subject to funding is planned for 2010/12.
