Ptolemy Dean was appointed architect to St. Andrew?s Church, Farnham in 2002. The church was keen to find a new solution to re-ordering and alteration as proposed plans had run into local opposition. The new scheme proposed the construction of three new timber ?vestries? at the western end of the church whose simple painted joinery were inspired by the georgian box pews and galleries which had existed in the church during the eighteenth century. As the new vestries were of free-standing timber construction, they involved no damage to the church walls and they were therefore ?reversible?. The first stage of the scheme which involved the construction of the new west end structures, DDA compliant disabled access and new WC?s was completed in 2004. The second phase of the works, including full redecoration and relighting as well as new furnishings and chairs was completed in 2005. The scheme was awarded a Waverley Design Award in 2005. In 2007 a phase of essential tomb repairs was undertaken, and in 2008 a new permanent internal tower access stair was achieved. This new access stair enabled the tower to be re-roofed without the expense of an external scaffold. Proposals for a new organ in the north transept are currently being prepared.
