PROJECT: Deep whole house retrofit of a 19th Century Lodge, with a contemporary extension LOCATION: Wirral ENERGY TARGET: EnerPHit standard TECH: Solar panels with battery storage, air source heat pump, MVHR If successful with its ambitions, this project could be the first Listed EnerPHit project in the UK. A beautiful Grade II Listed lodge in the heart of a historic municipal park, this local landmark fell into a state of disrepair before being taken on by our clients. Their ambitious plans aim to restore the historic fabric and preserve the character of the existing building for the public and future generations, whilst employing innovative techniques to radically improve its thermal comfort and performance. This will include the use of a layered wood fibre and lime internal wall insulation system, high tech vacuum glazing to the delicate original window frames and a radial MVHR system threaded discreetly through the existing structure. A simple, contemporary extension has been designed to contrast and complement the existing building, whilst providing a modern living space with level access, future-proofing the home for generations to come. The construction of the new elements are designed to Passivhaus levels of insulation and airtightness and will contribute towards achieving the very challenging target.
