The brief was to provide a new kitchen facility close to dining hall as existing kitchen was serviced from the front of the listed house and circulation around the site and within the school was poor. After analysis of the site and operation of the school, Proctor Watts Cole Rutter advised on relocating dining hall to an existing under-utilised space beneath the 1960’s church. New kitchen was then constructed with service road away from main school entrance and locating facilities at the centre of gravity of school buildings. The design respects the form of the 1960’s church adjacent and uses varied wall textures to give the new building its own identity. The existing hall was refurbished to provide a dining area fit for the 21st Century.
