The brief was to extend into the garden and create a second bedroom to this large lower ground floor flat in East London. In order to retain adequate living space a large 6.0m rear extension was proposed. A glazed courtyard is created between the original rear elevation and the new garden pavilion, which permeates light and ventilation to the new bedroom. Despite the unprecedented size the high quality design has received welcome support from Hackney Planning Department following our pre-application submission.
