We transformed the ground floor of a Windsor & Newton factory into fourteen art studios and a gallery space on behalf of arts charity ACAVA, the local authority, and the Greater London Authority. A new facade of brick piers, glazing and metal canopies addresses a well-used pedestrian route to the local school. A mat of paving welcomes visitors to the gallery in the centre. The interior is pragmatic and generous maximising natural light and providing 14 large studios. In the centre of the building communal facilities we located a series of modest but distinctive volumes containing the shared facilities including kitchen, seating area, cleaning facilities, storage and bathrooms.
