A new single family house in a valley to the west of Bath city centre. The site was originally a long narrow garden at the end of a line of houses built in the mid-twentieth century. The layout of the house is arranged around three primary spaces: a long kitchen that opens onto a courtyard garden and a living room partially cut into the slope to provide a generous ceiling height. There are three smaller rooms are for sleeping and study, bathroom and utility room and gardens at the lower and upper levels. The house uses common materials and simple construction techniques with a visible timber superstructure, a thick layer of wood-fibre insulation and tiled roofs.
