PROJECT BRIEF: Creation of a new basement level and lower ground floor, along with refurbishment of the upper floors for private dwelling. PROJECT INFO: This project presented numerous challenges for the Prestige Architects team who were charged with creating an additional 150 sqm within the footprint of the existing five-storey house. Extending into the front lightwell and rear garden to incorporate natural light was not without difficulty, particularly in a constrained space amidst high urban density. Nonetheless, the studio is always eager to undertake any project with enthusiasm, using creative thinking and tenacity to think around obstacles and ultimately find the right solution for the property and client. The new ancillary space has provided a spacious, tastefully designed setting for entertaining friends and family, complete with a traditional competition snooker table and a superior wine cellar to showcase a rare wine collection. It features solid construction, traditional mahogany panels and an elegant wine display cabinet connected to the room control wine cellar in the snooker room. Exquisite details such as the bespoke Tiffany glass, the concealed dart-playing area and cue storage, convey a message of sophistication and meticulous attention to detail in design and execution. These elements embody the essence of the Prestige Architects ethos. The private lift was extended to serve this additional floor and a games room created for the grandchildren in the new basement, with a feature wall reminiscent of the old A-Z map. As part of the project, all of the upper floors were also refurbished, incorporating updated technology and new décor throughout. This included a new building management system to enhance the aesthetic and structural improvements and allow full remote control.
