The Client acquired this former locomotive engine shed or stable at Whitby, North Yorkshire. The building was part of Whitby Station and the wider rail network, before Whitby Station was reduced in size and scope to its present day form. The Building is an impressive volume, but access and other restrictions presented a problem to find a viable use by the Client. After use as a car park, the Shed already had an intermediate parking deck already built. Following many other uses and ideas; this scheme is for holiday lets and apartments. Due to to he sensitive nature of the existing building in a conservation area the fabric of the building was to be preserved and so a 'building within a building' concept was developed. Modern living and infrastructure will all sit inside the volume of the shed and have minimal contact with the surrounding walls and roof. The large arched windows of the former engine shed will afford impressive views over Whitby Station and beyond. Full Planning was obtained and the Client intends to develop and build it themselves.
