Alteration to existing property
Potter Church & Holmes Architects Ltd
Worlds End Studios , 132-134 Lots Road , LONDON , SW10 0RJ
On Woodquest Avenue in Herne Hill, we are renovating a classic Victorian semi-detached family home. The project has three main components. Firstly, we are installing basic, modern comforts by adding internal insulation to external walls, sound proofing the wall shared with the attached neighbour and adding insulation throughout the ground floor with underfloor heating. Secondly, as the previous owners had stripped out all the original Victorian features, we are looking to reinstate period features such as corniceing, ceiling roses and paneled doors to return the property to its former glory. The wow factor of the project comes from the final key element – the modern rear extension which incorporates a wide expanse of glazing to give a panoramic view of the garden. The design intention is for a set of three panel sliding doors coupled next to a set of sliding windows above kitchen worktop that continues with a glazed corner. This provides uninterrupted views out across the garden whether you are at the dining table or cooking in the kitchen.
