The topography of this disused quarry dictated the need for an inventive and different approach in order to achieve a substantially sized house on a relatively small and unyielding site. The practice was able to negotiate the scheme with all interested parties to develop a house of considerable note in its’ rural context. The layout is inverted with bedrooms being on the ground floor and living accommodation on the first floor. The central living space benefits from stunning views over the water garden to the opposing verdant granite rock face, with waterfall feature, yet is also afforded privacy. The practice was initially engaged to provide a partial service to planning approval. This having been granted the project was then sold on to private developers who carried out the detail design and build programs. The finished home is striking in both design and execution.
