The design proposal sought to create an extension and annexe to the rear of the property, through the removal of an existing substandard extension and outbuilding. The new extension is designed to be proportionate in size to the existing building. The style aims to replicate the brick and timber cladding often associated with barn conversions of the surrounding area, with a contemporary twist. Emphasis is put on getting as much natural light to the extension as possible without overlooking and minimal impact on neighbouring properties. The proposal takes influence from the existing gable width of the building, to ensure that the extension retains a proportionate sizing to the existing house. The building elements have also been chosen with sustainability techniques and materials used ensure that the building will perform to modern building regulation standards.
