We provided a full architectural service from RIBA Stage 1-6 to create a new four-bedroom contemporary parkland retreat set within the historic grounds of the listed Swafield Hall in North Norfolk. The home comprises three linked pavilions stepping down the natural slope, inspired by Chinese garden structures that influenced the English romantic landscape. Overlapping rectangular forms create sheltered courtyard gardens that connect occupants to the surrounding nature. Vaulted ceilings and cosy nooks bring spatial richness to the interiors. Sustainable features include triple glazing, timber cladding, and a highly insulated shell that are supported by an air-source heat pump and MVHR system. Discreet external lighting and biodiversity enhancements protect bats, birds, and newts, reinforcing a design rooted in sensitivity, simplicity, and a deep respect for place
