A striking kitchen extension to a terraced property located in a conservation area in Hackney. Made of frameless glass, this new striking addition creates a seamless connection between the inside and the outside. The minimal frameless glass structure was chosen so that the views from the existing windows at the rear of the property would continue enjoying the views of the garden and benefit from the daylight coming in. The additional space expands the kitchen, providing a new dining area for the family. To maximise the space in the kitchen/diner, the existing chimney breast was removed. The high quality modern materials and crisp detailing sit in a complementary juxtaposition to the original features of the house. Veneered kitchen units with white worktops are complemented with concrete effect floor tiles, which seamlessly flow out into the garden. The project was highly commended in the best extension or alteration to an existing home category at the LABC Building Excellence Awards 2016.
