Parkes Lees Architects have designed a series of developments in Wadebridge, which have transformed the riverside and done much to revitalise the town. The building of a by-pass and pedestrianisation of the town centre has presented an opportunity for the imaginative redevelopment of unused and run-down sites, which was seized by their client Trebur Estates. The second of these was ‘Town Quay’, the site of a former farm machinery business near the ancient bridge on the Camel cycle trail. The old industrial shed was given a face lift and converted to retail use. This faces onto a new lively pedestrian square which also contains a new Tourist Information Centre, a circular stone and timber building with a conical slated roof. Three blocks of apartments were constructed on the riverside with gables and balconies facing the river, large sun decks to the top floor apartments and curved stone staircases.
