Listed Building - Grade II, Alteration to existing property, Within a Conservation Area
Cromwell Place Surgery is known as a doctor’s practice healthcare provider for the central St Ives community. The client’s major goal for this re-development project was to replace outdated facilities with smaller, flexible, and efficient spaces. The design preserves the historical elements of the buildings with the enhancement of the façade through the use of a modern material palette of buff bricks, brown zinc cladding and simple proportioned windows. The principal form of the perimeter blocks are faced in brick up to the 1st floor, retaining the existing ground floor built up of Cromwell Place Surgery. Above this, a contemporary pitched roof arrangement forms the upper storey. A simple and efficient floorplan arrangement provides a balance of patient privacy and staff observation. Detailed brick panels and louvred openings will generate shadows and texture across the building whilst providing privacy to the consultant rooms.
