A bespoke facility for CF patients, to receive all their treatment from one specialist building designed around their unique needs. The contemporary design creates a non-clinical, homely environment and provides exemplary inpatient facilities, as well as open plan staff office and associated accommodation. There are 16 spacious en-suite bedrooms and provision for families staying overnight. A key feature of the unit is hi-tech ICT with video conferencing between rooms, enabling patients to talk to one another and reducing feelings of isolation. Exercise is crucial too; helping to improve lung function and reducing the risk of chest infections. The new unit provides indoor and outdoor exercise options: internally a gym with glassed-in pods allow patients to have visual contact and exercise in groups while being protected from cross-infection, whilst external gardens provide walkways, seating areas and outdoor exercise equipment.
