Leeds
£2m to £2.99M
New Build
6th Floor , 84 Albion Street , Leeds , West Yorkshire , LS1 6AG , United Kingdom
Ireland Wood Medical Centre has been developed by Abstract for their investment partners Assura and is an example of close collaborative working between architect, developer, and council planning department. The £2.7m building provides flexible and spacious facilities replacing cramped accommodation at Tinshill Lane. New services in the 1750m² building include GP and nurse consulting with dedicated treatment roooms and opthalmology services, patient education services and pharmacy, offering a wider range of services to patients at local level. Future adaptability was a driving force in the design of this contemporary building: the steel frame structure and use of underfloor heating at entrance level allows for complete internal flexibility. The first floor includes expansion space, and the adjoining single storey 140m² pharmacy has a concrete roof to allow for vertical expansion, while the circulation has been designed to allow for an extension to the rear of the building. The building achieved a BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating and was Highly Commended in the 2011 RIBA Northern Network Awards. Christine Gaughran, Managing Partner of Ireland Wood & Horsforth Medical Practice said “We are delighted with the new premises which are the most modern in North Leeds. With the improved facilities, additional services plus a pharmacy and optician, everything is much more convenient for patients.”
