Situated directly onto the Regent’s Canal, this scheme for 40 residential units above a creative office complex, directly responds to and celebrates the character of this post-industrial landscape. It has been designed around a series of meadows, parks and gardens with a layered cor-ten carapace continuing the eerie beauty of the context. Gabion walls, positioned close to the waters edge and lining the central courtyards, continue the robust boldness of the industrial wharf buildings along the canal whilst evoking the mesh of the existing grills along the street facades. These walls, with the addition of soil pads and bird, insect, water vole and bat nest boxes, will encourage new habitats and ecosystems to form. The seasonally changing planted elevations reinforce the canal as a ‘green link’ and establish an identity for the development.
