Alteration to existing property, Within a Conservation Area
10 Lumley Court , Drum Industrial Estate , CHESTER LE STREET , County Durham , DH2 1AN , United Kingdom
Situated within the Durham Conservation Area, any new additions to the existing property needed to be well considered and sympathetic to the local area. The client brief included the demolition of the existing garage plus a new workshop and sunroom extension to the rear of the property. The family were keen to maximise natural daylight and create an indoor-outdoor living space via expansive glazing opening out from the open plan kitchen/ diner to the garden. Various different options and ideas were explored with the client to provide them with a well-developed, bespoke and tailored design response, which met their tastes and requirements. The unusual form of the extension led to a beautiful array of exposed timber structure internally to create a feature space for entertaining or relaxing next to the log burning fire. The form also accentuates the view upwards toward the upstairs landing balconies and out across the garden.
