Kingsgate House is a detached Grade II listed townhouse, constructed in circa 1800, situated within the heart of the Durham City Conservation area. Adjacent to the Durham World Heritage Site, the property is surrounded by various significant architectural works and is visually prominent, framed within its own walled garden. Over the years, the building has been altered and refurbished to be used as a residential property. The alterations and improvements took into account the existing design and heritage of the building, remaining sympathetic to its past, whilst still updating specified areas to be at a more suitable level of use. Many of the sliding sash timber windows and doors were retained and repaired where necessary and the newer steel windows and secondary glazing were removed and replaced with more sympathetic traditional timber sashes. Throughout the project, PHP worked closely with the client and Contractor to preserve the delicate features, fabric and details which make up the character and qualities of the heritage asset.
