Alteration to existing property, Listed Building - Grade II*, Scheduled Ancient Monument
Repairs and upgrade of Grade II* brick barn as an events space; the site is also a scheduled ancient monument with a “lost village.” Major works were undertaken to the huge (80m long) roof, which was stripped back; repairs were carried out to the structural oak timbers and new steel rod ties were added to stop the roof spreading. The roof was re-tiled with hand-made clay pantiles over new breathable insulation. Repairs and repointing were also carried out to some of the Elizabethan brickwork walls. The project greatly improved the environmental quality of the barn for use as a venue for weddings and parties. Peter Rawlings Architects provided a comprehensive architectural service from inception to completion, including a scheduled ancient monument application.
