Alteration to existing property, Listed Building - Grade II*, Within a Conservation Area
Repairs to the Grade II* listed timber frame museum in the village of Ashwell, near Royston. Major works were required, so the building was stripped back to its timber frame under a temporary roof; repairs were carried out to the brick plinths & oak frame, walls were re-plastered in haired lime and the roof was insulated and re-tiled. New oak eaves and gable overhangs were added and the walls lime-washed to provide better future protection against the weather. The project received an Historic England grant, which had to be carefully managed and the local community engagement was supported through tours of the works in progress. Peter Rawlings Architects provided a comprehensive architectural service from inception to completion, including a listed building application.
