26 The Crescent in Barnes is one of the Edwardian Lion Houses and is subject to an Article 4 Direction. As such the design was negotiated carefully with the London Borough of Richmond Conservation Officer to reach a proposal that met both the client's requirements and the criteria of the local authority. The brief was to provide a new light and versatile kitchen area to accommodate the needs a modern, busy household and that the completed building would respect the historic fabric of the house while introducing a contemporary feel. By working closely with both contractor and client and by paying close attention to details such as window & door joinery, roof glazing and finishes the overall intended aesthetic was successfully achieved.
