We were approached by the client who had received outline planning approval for a modest detached dwelling within the large garden of their existing property but wanted some inspiration and experience to develop a design and see the project built. The building needs to be flexible enough to potentially accommodate the client's themselves or their elderly parents or their children in future. That suggested the principal living spaces and master bedroom being on one level. We have worked with the topography and constraints of mature trees with TPO's to determine a footprint and layout the respond to those issues and the brief. As a result the house consists of a timber & glass box as the upper main level, set above a stone plinth as the lower level. A sedum room helps the building sit comfortably within the landscape. The house is a subtle yet simple concept that will provide a stunning series of spaces which celebrate the sea views.
