Listed Building - Grade I, New Build, Within a Conservation Area
A C19th icon, the British Museum was the first of its kind and the Grade I listed estate remains unique. The aim of the masterplan was to provide ways for the Museum to sustain itself. Paul Vick undertook whilst working at Ian Richie Architects. After identifying the varied issues facing a historic World Museum in the C21st, a Spaceplan was proposed for up to 2030 and beyond. These included possible site-wide strategies (eg for visitor access and object engagement, curatorial consolidation, urban context, environmental efficiencies…) and were then developed into possible projects. Project sizes and types varied considerably and were assessed against feasibility, revenue as well as curatorial priorities. This particular approach allows the client to assess the art of the possible and plan costed phases of work and make the most of available budgets by doing work once and making each part support the success of another part. || More recent cultural work by Paul Vick Architects includes: - A vision for the diocese of London - New entrance and facilities for Keats House and Garden owned by Corporation of London - Memorial space including to Yeats at St. Michael's and All Angels, Turnham Green
