The proposal aimed to remove the existing building which was an early 20th century bungalow. The proposed house is designed to present itself to the street as a single storey element. This aims to continue the street relationship to its neighbouring buildings as it steps up in height along the Avenue. The brief called for a ground floor master bedroom suite which would comply with life time homes standards and suite a retired couple as their final dwelling house. The brief was to create a 4 bedroom detached house and site parking for one car. Open plan kitchen / living and master bedroom suite were to be located on the ground floor for level access and access visually and physically to the garden. Other supporting utilitarian spaces and the study were also located for ground floor access. The first floor contains the 3 further bedrooms. A care worker’s living quarters was to be catered for at this level to assist the retired couple in their later years. The accommodation is per the Ground and First Floor Plans. This building was to be low in energy use and detailed to the highest level of quality both inside and outside. This project recieved the following award: LABC Built In Quality Awards 2013 Finalist Best Individual Dwelling.
