A contemporary dwelling (replacing an existing bungalow). Located on Chapel Hill, a Conservation Area, in the sunny seaside town of Budleigh Salterton, Devon. Located in East Devon, the small town is classed as being in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The design aims to be sensitive to its context whilst remaining modern and spacious. The aesthetics of the new building is in ‘harmony’ with the existing architecture – ‘Harmony is the same music but in a different key’ and is more contemporary interpretation of the surrounding properties. Strategically, our design deploys similar forms, proportions and wall to void ratios to the existing surrounding architecture; yet with modern materials as to appear subservient in the context of the host building.
