Within a Conservation Area
In the heart of Hackney’s De Beauvoir Town Conservation Area, Paul Cahillane Studio Ltd was commissioned to reimagine the lower ground floor of this period home. The brief was to create a modern extension and complete refurbishment that would transform the space into a light-filled living environment, with the addition of a guest bedroom, utility room, and bathroom. Our design approach focused on opening the house to the garden, allowing natural light and views to become part of everyday living. The new extension blurs the boundary between inside and out, making the most of its westerly aspect. A palette of natural oak and soft pastel tones lends warmth and calm, while carefully integrated lighting creates an atmosphere that adapts seamlessly from day to night. Beyond the architecture, our appointment included interior design and full project delivery, ensuring a cohesive vision throughout. The result is a home that feels both contemporary and timeless — tailored to the lifestyle of its owners and rooted in its beautiful leafy setting.
