Listed Building - Grade II*, Alteration to existing property
219 The Metal Box Factory , 30 Great Guildford Street , London , SE1 0HS , United Kingdom
The Cupola Apartment occupies the upper storey of Stansted House, an Edwardian mansion house in the South Downs National Park, which is listed at Grade II*. With commanding roof top views across the South Downs to Chichester harbour, the new apartment occupies the entire upper floor of the house, with a central living and dining space and lateral bedroom wings. It is the perfect weekend retreat for a single family. The apartment has been curated to display artefacts from the family home in Belgravia along with a large collection of Italian and English paintings. It combines these with contemporary features, objects and sculpture, at the heart of which is the rare collection of Itailan Vue D’Optiques. These have been integrated into a specially crafted bookcase with individual lighting control, a central feature of the living space. An original contemporary Vue D’Optique, the Four Seasons, has also been commissioned by the artist Carlos Diaz de Bustamante, to anchor both ends of the main living and dining spaces adjacent to the existing lunette windows.
